KITCHEN & BATH DESIGN

Here are the basic steps in planning your kitchen or bathroom renovation:

1. Book your appointment

Make an appointment for the designer to come into your home. This way they can see the space and give you ideas on what you are looking for and look at it with fresh eyes. Possibly expanding on your thoughts and giving you some different options.

2. Before the meeting.

Time is money, so most good designers are only going to give you an hour time at that first appointment. Make the most of it by doing some prep work. Here are some suggestions:

Use magazines to gather pictures of different kitchens that you like. This will assist us in getting a better idea of what you are looking for. We will be asking you a lot of questions about how you live, cook and entertain in your space to get an idea of what you are looking for. Whether you are a family of four with a young family or empty nesters, all this information will have an impact on how the new kitchen will be designed. Establish your budget range that works for you. Redesigning your kitchen can cost between $20,000 or $100,000, so having an idea on what your budget is will help guide us to determining the products that will be used in your renovation to stay within your budget.

3. The first appointment

The first meeting typically serves as a getting-to-know-you session , they'll want to hear about your needs, your wants and your budgetary and space constraints.

We will measure the kitchen's dimensions and take some pictures, too. This helps us to document the space we are working with and remember how the kitchen relates to the surrounding rooms. At this point we will ask for a design retainer or design fee before continuing to work on your project.

At this point, Foxglove Design has the information to design an initial concept. We will then book an appointment to meet in one to two weeks to present drawings.

4. Initial design concepts

Preliminary designs will be drawn by hand or on a computer, which will include sketches of the proposed floor plan and elevations depicting cabinetry, counter and fixture placement. The quote will reflect the product choices discussed. Foxglove Design will provide a budget range or multiple figures, and explain the impact different product options would have on the ultimate price.

5. Refining the design and estimate

Once you have reviewed the initial design we can then discuss any changes and different possibilities for your kitchen: "What if you did an island instead of a peninsula?" or "Can we try a different door style?" Foxglove Design will work with you to modify the floor plan and elevations to perfection and spec out products down to the last detail, including tile pattern and faucet finish. This process, of course, will modify the cost of the project. Foxglove Design should be able to steer you toward products and design solutions that will help you stay within budget, though this may require compromise on your part.

How long does this part take? Depends on how good you are at making decisions.

6. Signing the contract

Once the design is perfected and you're ready for your new kitchen to take shape, you need to sign the contract, which should include the final estimate and payment schedule.

Foxglove Design offers design services and cabinetry and additional products, installation services and project management.  Foxglove Design is full-service firm that will take care of all the demolition, construction and management, from scheduling to purchasing products.
